Domestic Abuse Charges Dropped
BERLIN - German tennis star Alexander Zverev has settled the assault case relating to domestic abuse charges brought by his ex-girlfriend, Brenda Patea. According to Reuters, Zverev agreed to pay Patea an undisclosed sum to end the case.
Patea had accused Zverev of physical abuse during their relationship, which ended in 2021. Zverev denied the allegations and the case had been ongoing in Berlin for several months.
The settlement brings to an end a highly publicized legal battle that had threatened to overshadow Zverev's career. The 25-year-old is one of the top players in the world and is ranked No. 3 in the ATP rankings.
Patea, a model, has not commented on the settlement. Zverev expressed his relief that the case had been resolved and said he was looking forward to moving on with his life.
"I am glad that this matter has been resolved," Zverev said in a statement. "I have always denied the allegations and I am pleased that the truth has prevailed."
